A running joke throughout the segment was Bickmore's quirky introductions in which she added a quip, often playing off of social trends, music and popular culture, for example: "Good evening. I'm Carrie Bickmore and don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me?" In 2007, Bickmore returned to the show with a more important role.

The name of the borough is typically pronounced "moo-NAH-kee;" however, in January 1987, then-Mayor of New York City Ed Koch pronounced it "mah-NOO-chee" when he made his now-famous quip that the New York Giants should hold their victory parade in the borough after the team had just won Super Bowl XXI.
The quip became the basis for a song titled "Five Minutes," as well as "A is for Atom (B is for Bomb)" by Monte Cazazza's band The Atom Smashers, both of which began with a clip of the recording.
