Railway electrification in Malaysia

On January 26, 2010, Chief Minister of the state of Malacca, Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the work on the dual-track railway was 32.81% completed and it was expected to be operational by Aug 2012.

On January 29, 2011, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said that The Gemas-Johor Bahru double-tracking and electrification project is expected to start this year.


Larut Rail Tunnel

Construction of the tunnel was started in 2008 by a joint venture of MMC Corporation Berhad and Gamuda Berhad as part of their electrified double tracking project between Ipoh and Padang Besar and is expected to complete by 2013.

Victoria Bridge, Malaysia

The new bridge is significantly wider, with room to support a second track, but in its early life it was only required to handle a single track until double tracking and electrification was conducted between the Ipoh-Padang Besar line during the late-2000s and early-2010s.
