unusual facts about scapula



Aletopelta

The skeleton including femora, tibiae, fibulae and incomplete parts of a scapula, humerus, ulna, left and right ischium, vertebrae, ribs, partial armor over the pelvic girdle plus at least 60 detached armor plates and 8 teeth was found in the Late Cretaceous (Upper Campanian) marine Point Loma Formation, near Carlsbad, California.

Incisura

Suprascapular notch, a notch in the superior border of the scapula, just medial to the base of the coracoid process

Labrum

Glenoid labrum, a lip-like projection of cartilage on the human scapula surrounding the joint between the humerus and the shoulder blade

Levator scapulae muscle

One of the muscles within the floor of the posterior triangle of the neck, the superior part of levator scapula is covered by sternocleidomastoid and its inferior part by the trapezius.

Presbyornithidae

There are some other, undescribed, presbyornithid or possible presbyornithid remains, such as the partial right scapula BMNH PAL 4989, which was considered part of Headonornis hantoniensis, but cannot be positively refererred to a known taxon, or the Early Cretaceous remains from the Mongolian Barun Goyot Formation at Uday Sayr
