In the years leading up to the failure, Bear Stearns was heavily involved in securitization and issued large amounts of asset-backed securities, which in the case of mortgages were pioneered by Lewis Ranieri, "the father of mortgage securities".
The securitization of the collections of other artists, such as James Brown, Ashford & Simpson and the Isley Brothers, later followed.
In October 2006, MIAC was named the leading provider of Secondary and Residual Pricing in the Securitized and Structured Finance markets by The Bond Market Association and The American Securitization Forum (now the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association).
