Sensory processing disorder

Sensory processing was defined by psychologist Anna Jean Ayres in 1972 as "the neurological process that organizes sensation from one's own body and from the environment and makes it possible to use the body effectively within the environment".

The difficulties of designing double-blind research studies of sensory integration dysfunction have been addressed by Temple Grandin and others.

Sensory processing disorders were first described in-depth by occupational therapist Anna Jean Ayres (1920–1989).
