Among others, Kamel was also the first person to describe the now well known Bean Of St. Ignatius (Strychnos ignatia), used in homeopathy and to extract the poisonous strychnine from its fruit.
The Hotel del Lago (Lake Hotel) in San Bernardino was where the German nationalist Dr. Bernhard Förster spent the last 6 weeks of his life, before committing suicide on 3 June 1889 by taking an overdose of strychnine.
