Term limit

There are no term limits for Vice Presidency, Representatives and Senators, although there have been calls for term limits for those offices.


Fred Romkema

2012 With Republican Representative Charles Turbiville term limited and leaving a District 31 seat open, Romkema ran in the four-way June 5, 2012 Republican Primary and placed first with 1,467 votes (31.4%); Romkema and fellow Republican nominee Timothy Johns were unopposed for the November 6, 2012 General election, where Romkema took the first seat with 6,721 votes (52%) and Johns took the second seat.

Gary Cammack

2012 When incumbent Republican Representative Thomas Brunner was term limited and left the Legislature and left a District 29 seat open, Cammack ran in the three-way June 5, 2012 Republican Primary and placed first with 1,450 votes (43.8%); Cammack and incumbent Republican Representative Dean Wink were unopposed for the November 6, 2012 General election, where Cammack took the first seat with 5,991 votes (55.40%) and Representative Wink took the second seat.

Lee Qualm

2010 When District 21 incumbent Republican Representatives Thomas Deadrick was term limited and retired and left a District 21 seat open, Qualm ran in the three-way June 8, 2010 Republican Primary but lost to incumbent Representative Kent Juhnke and James Schaefer, who went on to win the four-way November 2, 2010 General election against Democratic nominees David Reis (a perennial candidate who had sought legislative seats in 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008) and Norm Cihak.

Nicole Parra

Senator Florez's mother Fran Florez, the mayor of Shafter, ran to succeed Parra, who was prevented from seeking reelection in 2008 due to California state term limit.

2012 When Republican Representative Charles Turbiville was term limited and left a District 31 seat open, Johns ran in the four-way June 5, 2012 Republican Primary and placed second with 1,169 votes (25.1%); Johns and incumbent Republican Representative Fred Romkema were unopposed for the November 6, 2012 General election, where Representative Romkema took the first seat and Johns took the second seat with 6,213 votes (48.04%).
