Puttgarden

A train ferry terminal was built in Puttgarden in 1961-63 after the old ferry route from Germany lay to Denmark between Großenbrode and Gedser 1945-1963.

Russian gauge

The railway has no fixed connection with the mainland, and rail cars coming from the mainland port of Vanino on the train ferry (operating since 1973) have their bogies changed in the Sakhalin port of Kholmsk.

SS Baikal

SS Baikal was an ice-breaking train ferry that linked the eastern and western portions of the Trans-Siberian Railroad across Lake Baikal.
