The Frays River is a branch of the River Colne which may have been developed to feed watermills in the area.
There are large watermills (none working) on the river in fairly quick succession, firstly at Little Faringdon close to Lechlade the second town named after the river, then at "Lechlade Mill," and finally Priory Mill which is situated on the Kelmscott road.
Hamilton commissioned civil engineer Pierre Charles L'Enfant, responsible for the layout of the new capital at Washington, D.C. to design the system of canals known as raceways suppylings the power for the watermills in the new town.
Fishponds and watermills belonging to bishop of Lipljan were stretching along the lake, from Sitnica to source of Nerodimka.
