On the night of 9 January 2008 firefighters were called to a blaze at the Broadford RSL, but there was little crews could do to save the weatherboard hall.
Its housing stock has undergone a radical transformation in recent years from being predominately weatherboard dwellings on traditional large blocks, with a large percentage of Housing SA owned dwellings, to one containing almost as many smaller houses since a concerted effort to update the housing stock began in 1993 by the Government of South Australia.
A further development of note took place circa 1857 with the construction of Bernera, a weatherboard homestead built by Allan Macpherson, son of a former Collector of Internal Revenue, William Macpherson.
In July 1867, the first railway journey to the Blue Mountains left Penrith and traveled through to Weatherboard Station, where the train terminated.

Originally called The Weatherboard after the ‘Weatherboard Inn’ built in 1814, a year later the town was named Jamison’s Valley by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in honour of the colony's leading private citizen, Sir John Jamison.
