It became a center of communication and trade, due to a convenient location along a merchant route from Wojnicz and Pilzno, to Opatowiec and Nowy Korczyn.
On December 25, 1991, following the fall of the Soviet Union, Makhnovist soldiers entered the region with the intention of overthrowing the government, and establishing an anarchist rule.
Other mass graves of murdered Romanies in the region include those at Bielcza (28 murdered), Borzęcin Dolny (28 murdered) and Żabno (49 murdered).
