In the 1970s, the railway was the scene of two train hijackings by South-Moluccans: in 1975 at Wijster, and in 1977 at De Punt.
Six of its fighter jets flew several times with thundering afterburners very low over a hijacked train, beginning a successful operation ending the 1977 Dutch train hostage crisis.
