The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) opened the airwaves in 2004, as it allowed educational institutions to get licence for community radio paving way many education institutions in India, including Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) at 96.9 hertz, Jamia at 90.4 hertz, to set up their own community radio stations since 2005 with a radius of 10–15 km.

Anwar Jamal Kidwai Mass Communication Research Center (AJK MCRC), Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi was established in 1982 by Anwar Jamal Kidwai, the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia University in collaboration with Canadian filmmaker and York University professor James Beveridge and his wife Margaret Beveridge.
He joined the AJK, Mass Communication Research Centre at Jamia Millia Islamia, on the invitation of its founder Chairperson, the late AJ Kidwai, and came close to the world-renowned documentary filmmaker James Beveridge.
Educated at Hansraj College University of Delhi, and AJK, Mass Communication Research Centre Jamia Millia Islamia Prashant Pandey had a brief stint as a journalist for ANI-REUTERS and later as a creative head with Zee tv talent hunt SAREGAMAPA
