Part of the Silesian Duchy of Głogów under the Piast duke Konrad I from 1251 on, the settlement in 1476 belonged to the inheritance of Barbara of Hohenzollern, widow of the last Głogów duke Henry XI, and therefore claimed by her father Elector Albert Achilles of Brandenburg.
It was devastated by the troops of Duke Jan II the Mad of Żagań on his 1477 expedition against the Brandenburg elector Albert Achilles of Hohenzollern and again by Imperial as well as Swedish forces during the Thirty Years' War.

Siegmund of Brandenburg-Bayreuth (27 September 1468 in Ansbach – 26 February 1495 in Ansbach) was the sixth, but third surviving, son of Albrecht III, Margrave of Brandenburg, Ansbach and Bayreuth.
Initially he served the Elector of Brandenburg, and later was at the court of the Elector Wilhelm von der Pfalz-Neuburg, (Palatinate) where he held the position of vice chancellor (Vicekanzler).
