Horowitz teaches a class at the University of Toronto entitled "The Spirit of Democratic Citizenship" which revolves around general semantics, a non-Aristotelian educational discipline first theorized by Polish engineer Alfred Korzybski.
In 1938, Alfred Korzybski founded the Institute of General Semantics at the former Richardson mansion in Lime Rock and directed it until his death in 1950.
In 1993 he wrote the "Preface to the Fifth Edition" of Alfred Korzybski's Science and Sanity.

Every year since 1952, it has sponsored the Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture, with presenters from a broad range of disciplines, from science to medicine to entertainment, including names like actor Steve Allen, psychologist Albert Ellis, scientist and visionary R. Buckminster Fuller, linguist Allen Walker Read, and philosopher F. S. C. Northrop.
