The history of the Anadolu Agency (AA) is almost identical to that of the Republic of Turkey.
•
After Istanbul came under occupation on March 16, 1920 and the Ottoman parliament was annulled, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk called on all provinces to hold elections for a new parliament to be established in Ankara.
•
It also struggled against submissive attitude of some foreign and Turkish newspapers in Istanbul.
•
Anadolu Agency is planning to increase the number of its regional offices in Turkey to 18 from 13 and its global offices from 39 to 80 by 2020.
•
The number of photographs at Anadolu Agency's digital archives has reached nearly 1.5 million as the biggest digital photo archive in Turkey.
•
The newly founded agency also had to defend the National Struggle in the world, inform the world public opinion on Turkey's rightful demands and act carefully against tricks of some circles.
•
Beside its effective partnership with the leading news agencies (AP, ITAR-TASS, Kyodo) and their global distribution network (Getty Images, AFP Image Forum, DPA Picture Alliance, Contacto, Scanpix), AA is set to become one of the "five most influential news agencies in the world" until 2020 by broadcasting in six different languages.
•
AA is the first news agency in Turkey to employ a photojournalist holding a paragliding license and it is also the first that went 630 meters down below the surface in a coal mine in Zonguldak, Turkey, for photographing.
