3 unusual facts about Andrea della Valle

Andrea della Valle

In 1584 the combined collection was purchased en bloc by Cardinal Ferdinand de' Medici and dispersed among various Medici dwellings, mostly at the Villa de Medici in Rome, but transferred in part to Florence, where della Valle sculptures can be seen today in the Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli Gardens, in the Uffizi and at the Medici villa at Poggio Imperiale.

Sant'Andrea della Valle

The interior structure of the church was finally completed by 1650, with additional touches added by Francesco Grimaldi.

The painting "Madonna della Purità" above the altar is a copy from 1647 by the Neapolitan painter Alessandro Francesi from the original that was painted in 1641 by the Spanish painter Luis de Morales "Il Divino" (situated in the Neapolitan church San Paolo Maggiore).

Jacques Sarazin

Starting thus, Sarrazin speedily obtained employment from Cardinal Aldobrandini at the Villa Aldobrandini, Frascati, where he won the friendship of Domenichino, with whom he afterwards worked on the high altar of Sant'Andrea della Valle.
