December – After John Dryden refuses to swear allegiance to the new monarchy following the Glorious Revolution, the writer is dismissed as Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom, the only laureate not to die in office until Andrew Motion in 1999.
The Poet Laureate Andrew Motion was guest of honour at the handover of the new building from the contractors to the City Council.
In March 2009, Voce performed the London premiere of Peter Maxwell Davies’ setting of the poem ‘The Five Acts of Harry Patch’, by poet laureate Andrew Motion, accompanied by the London Mozart Players.

She went on to complete an MA in Creative Writing (Fiction) at the University of East Anglia, studying with Andrew Motion, Richard Holmes, and Paul Magrs.
Notable events to take place will include a discussion at Kings Place chaired by Michael Portillo entitled 'Art: What's It Good For?', and an introduction by Andrew Motion (Poet Laureate 1999-2009) to his latest book of poems, The Cinder Path, amongst other works.
Recent contributors include many of the leading voices in international literature: Jennifer L. Knox, Paul Muldoon, Helen Dunmore, Anne Carson, Diane Lockward, Kristjana Gunnars, Billy Collins, Julia Copus, Andrew Motion, Robert Pinsky, Stacey Richter, Andrei Codrescu, and George Singleton.
The next step was to offer days with poets such as Ted Hughes, Seamus Heaney, Derek Walcott, James Fenton, Tony Harrison, U A Fanthorpe, Benjamin Zephaniah, Simon Armitage, Glyn Maxwell, Gillian Clarke, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Carol Ann Duffy, Liz Lochhead and Andrew Motion.
