He recorded as co-lead singer along with Terry Blackwood for their albums Imperials (1972),Imperials LIVE (1973),Follow the Man with the Music (1974),Grammy winning No Shortage (1975), and Just Because (1976) before joining Blackwood in a new duo Andrus, Blackwood and Company.
At that time, he left the group along with fellow Imperial Sherman Andrus to form Andrus, Blackwood and Company, one of the only racially integrated groups in contemporary Christian music at the time.

While not songwriters themselves, Andrus and Blackwood were good judges of what CCM radio wanted, developing relationships with Bruce Hibbard, Hadley Hockensmith, Phil Johnson and Tim Sheppard among others.
On 22 April 2012, Andrus' concert in Teatr Syrena in Warsaw was filmed, and released in April 2013 on a DVD titled Piłem w Spale... I co dalej?.

His breakthrough was an interview with poet and singer Wojciech Młynarski, during which Andrus was rhyming when asking questions, and Młynarski was answering with improvised rhymes.
Andrus was born in Logan, Utah and grew up in Sepulveda, California (now called North Hills), a community in the San Fernando Valley of the city of Los Angeles.
Their initial five-year proposal received funding support from the Ford Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and the Andrus Family Fund.
Carl H. Andrus is himself an avid mountain climber, having summited all 46 of the Adirondack high peaks and having, in his youth, climbed the Matterhorn.
The school won the AARP Ethel Percy Andrus Legacy Award, that recognises outstanding educational achievements, in 2008 for its Advanced Placement Incentive Program.
Andrus resigned with the 49ers on November 17, 2010 to fill-in for injured Joe Nedney after spending the 2010 offseason with the team.
