It helped to popularize the works of composers like Steve Reich and Philip Glass; the Center has also hosted shows by performers ranging from the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra to Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
The festival is held at seven different venues throughout the Greater Philadelphia Area, including, The Ritz 5, Ritz East, International House, Music Theater and The Annenberg Center.

It was designed by Philadelphia architect Vincent G. Kling who would also help design Five Penn Center, Centre Square and the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.
