Lasting circa 18 minutes, it was premiered in Helsinki on 20 March 1991 by flutist Petri Alanko, cellist Anssi Karttunen and the Finnish Radio Symphony conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Karttunen plays in the Zebra Trio with the violinist Ernst Kovacic and the violist Steven Dann.
The cellist Anssi Karttunen fist premiered his Concerto for violin and cello at the Maison de Radio France in 1989.
Music included Sept Papillons for cello solo (2000), played by Anssi Karttunen, and Quatre Instants for soprano and piano (2002), performed by Pia Freund and David Lively.
