Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, Prairie Falcons, Peregrine Falcons, Northern Harriers, American Kestrels, Great Horned Owls, Barn Owls, Ospreys and Red-Tailed Hawks are some of the species of raptors that can occur on the island.

By the 1890s the American Bison was extinct over most of its former range and was becoming quite rare.
The observation deck is open to the public for free, and provides a good view of Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake to the northwest, the Wasatch Mountains to the north and east, the skyline of the city to the south, the Oquirrh Mountains to the west, and Temple Square to the immediate west.
Born in 1830 in Williamstown, Oswego County, New York, he became a close friend of Orrin Porter Rockwell and was known as "The Horseman" for his exceptional skills on horseback as well as for his help in rounding up wild mustangs on Utah's Antelope Island.
