Ryan has been commissioned by the Cleveland Orchestra, the Windsor Symphony, Esprit Orchestra, Tapestry New Opera Works, the Arditti Quartet, and Elektra Women's Choir.
In 2006 he received a commission from the Arditti Quartet, the composition "Tetraktis" for string quartet and 4 digital tracks, and in 2010 a commission from the Japanese piano player Aki Takahashi for Piano and electronic sounds ("Ashimakase").

His works have been performed and broadcast by ensembles and artists such as rout, 175 East, Arditti Quartet, Asko Ensemble, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Richard Casey, Composers Ensemble, Exquisite Corpse, Philip Howard, Huuj Ensemble, Ives Ensemble, Ixion, Jane's Minstrels, London Sinfonietta, Opus 20 and the London Symphony Orchestra.
He has also conducted contemporary ensembles such as the Arditti Quartet, Ensemble Sospeso, La Jolla Symphony, and the New York New Music Ensemble, and has conducted recordings on Einstein, Koch, Mode and Nonesuch.
As an electric guitar soloist, he has performed with the Kronos Quartet, the Arditti Quartet, New World Symphony, Dutch Radio Symphony, and London Sinfonietta.
Since 2005, the label has gone on to release discs featuring artists such as Dame Felicity Lott, Imogen Cooper, Christine Brewer, Trevor Pinnock, Jonathan Biss, the Gould Piano Trio, the Doric, Arditti and Kopelman string quartets, the Nash Ensemble, the Academy of Ancient Music and the Early Opera Company.
