Nicolás Urquiza

His father, Raul Grasso Urquiza, was a doctor and great-grandson of Justo José de Urquiza, president of the Argentine Confederation from 1854 to 1860.


Federalist

The 1831 Federal Pact between Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos and Santa Fe Provinces opposed a military alliance to the League and ultimately defeated it during 1832, its former members joining the Federal Pact into a loose confederation of Provinces known as the Argentine Confederation.

Pastor Obligado

This group, which also included Adolfo Alsina, Valentín Alsina, José Mármol, and Carlos Tejedor, spearheaded the September 11, 1852, establishment of the State of Buenos Aires, seceding from the Argentine Confederation led by Urquiza.
