Col. Patrick MacKellar (Argyllshire 1717-1778) was the chief engineer of Minorca and his house today is known as Son Granot.
It is interesting that the name MacGuigan (also as MacGoughan, MacGuckan and MacGugan) is found in Scotland, particularly in Argyllshire and Kintyre.
Born at Kames, Argyllshire, on 22 May 1841, he was the second son of John Macallum, J.P., of the Kames gunpowder works.
He was a Deputy Lieutenant of Dumbartonshire and J.P. for Dumbartonshire, Argyllshire, Lanarkarkshire, and Renfrewshire.
His grandfather was Sir James Riddell, first baronet of Ardnamurchan, Argyllshire.
