Aristocrat Records

By early 1950 Leonard and his brother Phil had become the sole owners, and in June of that year, they changed the company's name from Aristocrat to Chess Records.

Aristocrat Records, sometimes referred to The Aristocrat of Records, was founded in April 1947 by Charles and Evelyn Aron, together with their partners Fred and Mildred Brount and Art Spiegel.

Black Angel Blues

Robert Nighthawk recorded "Black Angel Blues" in 1949, with Nighthawk (electric slide guitar), Willie Dixon (double bass), and Ernest Lane (piano) (Aristocrat 2301).

The Four Blazes

As The Five Blazes, they signed with Aristocrat Records in 1947, becoming only the second act to record for the predecessor to Chess Records.
