The Polish writer and adventurer Arkady Fiedler visited Ambinanitelo in 1937 and resided there for several months, which was the subject of a travel book he wrote on his return to Poland giving a detailed account of the townspeople's daily life and culture, as well as some frictions with the French colonial authorities which he witnessed.

Arkady Fiedler

As an officer of the reserve of the Polish Army, he took part in the Greater Poland Uprising in 1918, was one of the organizers of the Polish Military Organisation from 1918 to 1920.

His most famous and popular book, written in 1942, was "Squadron 303 (book)" about the legendary Kościuszko Squadron fighting during the Battle of Britain; it sold over 1.5 million copies.
