Artashat

FC Dvin Artashat, founded in 1982 as Olympia Artashat was the only football club in the city.

It was occupied by Capadocian legions under the Roman general Gnaeus Domitius Corbulo, who razed it to the ground in 59 AD as part of the first, short-lived, Roman conquest of Armenia.

The city has a cultural palace, an art centre named after Charles Aznavour and a dramatic theatre named after Amo Kharazyan.

Legio VI Ferrata

From 54 AD to 68 AD the Sixth Legion Ferrata served under Gnaeus Domitius Corbulo at Artaxata and Tigranocerta against the Parthians.

Robert Emmiyan

An annual track and field meeting in Artashat, Armenia has been held in his honour since 2001 – the Emmiyan Cup.
