He contributed papers on microscopy to the Royal Microscopical Society's Journal and Transactions, and was president of the society in 1851–2.
In 1841 Quekett succeeded Dr. Arthur Farre as secretary of the Microscopical Society, a post which he retained until 1860, when he was elected president, but was unable to attend any meetings during his year of office.

In 1858 he was appointed lecturer on midwifery at the Middlesex Hospital, and in 1862 he was elected professor of obstetric medicine at King's College London, and obstetric physician to King's College Hospital, in the place of Arthur Farre.
