6 unusual facts about Astura

Astura

Torre Astura, a former island of Lazio, Italy, containing Roman villas

The Lancia Astura, a passenger car produced by Italian automobile manufacturer Lancia between 1931 and 1939

Corioli

The site is apparently to be sought in the North-Western portion of the district between the sea, the river Astura and the Alban Hills; but it cannot be more accurately fixed (the identification with Monte Giove, South of the Valle Aricciana, rests on no sufficient evidence), and even in the time of Pliny it ranked among the lost cities of Latium.

Gertrude of Austria

On 8 September 1268, Gertrude's son Frederick, who had accompanied Conradin on his Italian expedition, was captured in Astura to the south of Anzio.

Pope Honorius IV

The king even sent a hostile fleet to the Roman coast and destroyed the city of Astura by fire.

Severinus of Noricum

Severinus also supposedly prophesied the destruction of Astura, Austria by the Huns under Attila.
