It is named after Sir Gilbert Archey (1890–1974), the former Director of the Auckland Institute.
This exhibition is linked to the War Memorial (see below), and for example shows models of Maori pas (earth fortifications) and original Spitfire and Mitsubishi Zero aeroplanes.
The Auckland War Memorial Museum and the Honolulu Museum of Art are among the public collections holding paintings by Frank Montague Moore.
Before he died on 4 November 1930, his extensive collections and library were donated to the British, Australian, and Auckland museums.
