Since his departure from management with Grimsby in 2008, Buckley who continues to live in the area is often the co-commentator and guest pundit for BBC Radio Humberside's coverage of Grimsby Town games.
Later in the year, he switched to BBC Radio Humberside and became a football & rugby league commentator.
He has also appeared as a guest pundit for BBC Radio Humberside whilst commentating on Grimsby Town games, a club who he is still closeley affiliated.
Mike started his career at the Corporation at "BBC Radio Humberside" in the early 1970s as a News Producer and very occasional rock music DJ, following some years learning the craft of journalism on newspapers.
From 1971-4 he was one of the founder broadcasters on BBC Radio Humberside with his popular programme of music, chat and current affairs titled Scunsbygookington, reflecting the key towns in the Humberside region of Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Goole, Kingston-upon-Hull and Bridlington.

But on 11 June 2007 at 12:00 midday, it was announced at a press conference broadcast live on BBC Radio Humberside that Pearson had sold the club and the SMC to a consortium consisting of Paul Duffen, Russell Bartlett and Martin Walker.
Paull also has a small Medium Wave transmitter site from which the signals for BBC Radio Humberside, Absolute Radio and TalkSPORT are transmitted.
