Fort de l'Olive

While being fired on by Chaberton in June 1940, the Fort de l'Olive in turn fired on the Italian fort Jaffereau in Bardonecchia.

Aiguille de Scolette

Administratively the mountain is divided between the commune of Avrieux (F - north-west and north-east faces) and the comune of Bardonecchia (I - southern face).

The easiest route for the summit starts from Pelouse's pass, which connects Avrieux and Bardonecchia, and follows the SW ridge and then the NW face of the mountain.

Fréjus Road Tunnel

The tunnel can be reached from the Italian side by the A32 Torino-Bardonecchia motorway, or by SS335 from Oulx, which joins SS24 (“del Monginevro”), and reaches Bardonecchia after 20 km.

Germain Sommeiller

Pointe Sommeiller, a 3332-meter-high peak in the Cottian Alps, and Col Sommeiller, the nearby mountain pass linking Bramans, France to Bardonecchia, Italy, were named in his honour.

He was noticed for outstanding technical skills, so when king Vittorio Emanuele II decided to build the Mont Cenis Tunnel between Bardonecchia and Modane in 1857, Sommeiller was appointed head of design and construction.

The easiest route for the summit starts from col du Fréjus, which connects Modane and Bardonecchia, then passes by punta del Fréjus and follows the south-western ridge of the mountain.

Punta Sommeiller

Administratively the mountain is divided between the Italian comunes of Bardonecchia (SW face) and Exilles (SE face) and the French commune of Bramans (N face).
