Pacita Abad (September 5, 1946 – December 7, 2004) was born in Basco, Batanes, a small island in the northernmost part of the Philippines, between Luzon and Taiwan.

In a game that is colored by the killing of the Philippine Coast Guard to a Taiwanese fisherman at the waters near Batanes, and the subsequent withdrawal of invitation from the 2013 William Jones Cup by Taiwanese to the Philippines, which were defending champions, Chinese Taipei banked on Lu Cheng-ju and Lin Chih-chieh to defeat the Filipinos to win the group.

The Brown-eared Bulbul (Hypsipetes amaurotis) is a medium-sized bulbul which is found from the Russian Far East (including Sakhalin), northeastern China, the Korean Peninsula, and Japan, south to Taiwan and the Babuyan and Batanes island chains in the north of the Philippines, occasionally being found on Luzon.
It is the only airport serving Itbayat Island and one of two airports in the Batanes Islands chain, the other being Basco Airport in the provincial capital, Basco.
The municipality's jurisdiction includes not just the island of Itbayat, the largest of the Batanes Islands, but also the rest of the northern islands of the group: Diogo, Siayan, Mabudis, North, and Y'ami Islands, the northernmost island of the Philippine archipelago.
The Fundacion Pacita Batanes Nature Lodge in Basco, Batanes, "was lovingly refurbished by her brother", Butch Abad.

Sabtang is the southernmost island municipality of the Batanes island group which is composed of Sabtang Island and two nearby smaller islands: Ivuhos and Dequey.
