Battle of Moscow

The offensive's only notable success occurred west of Moscow near Aleksino, where Soviet tanks inflicted heavy losses on the 4th Army because the Germans still lacked anti-tank weapons capable of damaging the new, well-armored T-34 tanks.

Shopokov

The town is named after Duyshenkul Shopokov, one of the 28 soldiers of Ivan Panfilov's Division who were reported to die heroically on November 16, 1941 while defending Moscow.


17th Rifle Division

In November 1941 it was assigned to the 43rd Army, Western Front where it participated in the Moscow Counteroffensive.

Ivan Zakharkin
