His father was Colonel of the 48th Regiment, and his grandfather was killed in action at the Battle of Talavera in the Peninsular War.

Henestrosa and the Duke of Albuquerque led the 6,000 horsemen of the 1st and 2nd Cavalry Divisions and there were 800 artillerymen.

In "A Magnum for Schneider", the 1967 pilot for the British TV series Callan starring Edward Woodward, Callan and Schneider re-fight the Battle of Talavera as a war-game.


Boothby baronets

Evelyn Leonard Beridge Boothby (1876–1937), son of Colonel Basil Charles Boothby (who was seriously wounded at the Battle of Alma during the Crimean War and had to have his leg amputated), fourth son of Reverend Charles Boothby (who at a young age fought in the Battle of Talavera where he lost a leg and was taken prisoner by the French), third son of the seventh Baronet, was also a Captain in the Royal Navy.
