Benediction

Benediction is often employed as a conclusion to other services, e.g. Vespers, Compline, the Stations of the Cross, etc., but it is also still more generally treated as a rite complete in itself.

An often complex and lengthy blessing before communion took place in the mass of the Gallican Rite and in some French sees survived until the Gallican rites controversy when they were suppressed.


Alfred Monahan

Bishop Monahan accepted the principle of reservation of the blessed sacrament in church and also permitted devotional services of Benediction.

Bonifatius Becker

On 27 May 1956, he received the blessing of his Benediction in the recently and built under his instigation and management new Abbey which had been consecrated on 2 May 1956 by the Bishop of Aachen, Johannes Pohlschneider.

Donn Moomaw

During this time, he became friends with California Governor Ronald Reagan and wife Nancy; Moomaw later gave the invocation and benediction at Reagan's 1981 presidential inauguration.
