unusual facts about Berlin Victory Column

Berlin Victory Column

The column itself, inspired to Heinrich Strack by the "torre faro" of Rodolfo Vantini (which stands in the monumetal cemetery of Brescia), consists of four solid blocks of sandstone, three of which are decorated by cannon barrels captured from the enemies of the aforementioned three wars.

Siegesallee

About 750 m in length, it ran northwards through the Tiergarten park from Kemperplatz (an intersection of roads on the southern edge of the park near Potsdamer Platz), to Königsplatz, in which stood the Berlin Victory Column, in its original position in front of the Reichstag (German Parliament building).

Theodor-Heuss-Platz

Via Kaiserdamm, Bismarckstraße and Straße des 17. Juni, the Theodor-Heuss-Platz is connected in a straight axis with Ernst-Reuter-Platz, the Berlin Victory Column, the Brandenburg Gate as well as Unter den Linden street and the Schloßplatz.
