Of the two lakes built in the garden, the larger lake, located in the centre of the park, is the habitat for water birds such as Mallard, Moorhen, Ring-necked Parakeet, White Wagtail, Wren, Blackbird, Blackcap, House Sparrow, Serin, and Greenfinch.
There are over 70 different kinds of bird, including Kingfisher, Dipper, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Song Thrush, Bullfinch, Grey Heron and Blackcap.
Their diet is largely insectivorous, though several species also eat fruit extensively, mainly small berries such as elder and ivy, particularly from late summer to late winter; one species (Blackcap) also frequently takes a wide variety of human-provided foods on birdtables in winter.
