In September 1986, Marmaduke Hussey was appointed Chairman of the BBC Governors.
In October 2006, Bharucha was appointed as Vice Chairman of the BBC Trust, the body that succeeded the Board of Governors as the governing body of the British Broadcasting Corporation.
He was chairman of the Board of Governors of the BBC from 1980 to 1983 after being a governor for eight years.
A fluent Welsh speaker, from 1952 – 1960 he was National Governor for Wales of the British Broadcasting Corporation, and from 1953 until his death was chairman of the Broadcasting Council for Wales.

On 25 April 1959 she married Marmaduke Hussey (later Chairman of the Board of Governors of the BBC) and they had two children, James Arthur (born 15 August 1961) and Katharine Elizabeth (born 1 February 1964).
