Between 1365 and 1369, Vidin was occupied by the Kingdom of Hungary and the ruling family was held captive in the castle of Humnik (in Bosiljevo, today's Croatia), where they were forced to convert to Catholicism.
Garay was killed by the rebels and his head was sent to Charles's widow Margaret, while the queens were imprisoned in the bishop of Zagreb's castle of Gomnec.

Nugent died on 22 August 1862 in the Bosiljevo Castle, near Karlovac, and his body was later transferred to a sarcophagus in the Doric temple "Peace for the Hero", in Trsat above Rijeka, next to the sarcophagus of his wife.
