At some point it was rebuilt with a Gardner engine and was used at the Royal Navy base at Botley, Hampshire.
The society meets in Botley, Oxford, on the second Wednesday of each month (except during the summer).
The admiral died quite suddenly and in the full swing of his literary activity on 13 October 1899, at Steeple Court, Botley, Hants.

Between Botley and Oxford there are a number of road bridges crossing various branches of the Thames, including Botley Bridge over Seacourt Stream and Osney Bridge over the main branch of the Thames, also on Botley Road, and Hythe Bridge over the Castle Mill Stream, next to the end of the Oxford Canal.
