The Cooerwull Academy was an independent, Presbyterian, day and boarding school for boys, located in Bowenfels, a small town on the western outskirts of Lithgow, New South Wales, Australia.
On 25 January 1980 Nugan was found dead in his car on an isolated dirt track near Bowenfels, New South Wales with a gunshot wound to the head, which the coroner concluded was self-inflicted.
Lithgow is the extent of urban electric passenger train services, although the electric wires extend to the town of Bowenfels west of Lithgow.
The locomotives were purchased as part of the electrification of the Main Western line over the Blue Mountains from Penrith to Bowenfels.
This led to Rev William McIntyre (Maitland), Rev John Tait (Parramatta), Rev Colin Stewart (Bowenfels) and Samuel Martin (Hunter elder) protesting and constituting a new Synod on the original basis.

Until 1 July 2013 it was also responsible for the administration, operation of passenger services under the CityRail and CountryLink brands as well as maintaining the rail network bounded by Newcastle, Bowenfels, Macarthur and Bomaderry.
