His family later moved to Apple Valley, Minnesota, then Massapequa, New York where he and his brothers became well-known locally as they continued to excel in sports.
Tim graduated from Massapequa High School in 1977, in the same class as Brian Setzer, lead guitarist of the Stray Cats and leader of The Brian Setzer Orchestra, and Brian Baldinger, professional football player and executive with the NFL Network.
