At that time major ECNs that became active were Instinet and Island (part of Instinet was spun off, merged with Island into Inet, and acquired by NASDAQ), Archipelago Exchange (which was acquired by the NYSE) and Brut (now acquired by NASDAQ).
The name was later used in Welsh adaptations of foreign material such as the Bruts, which were based on Geoffrey.

Hoffberger found inspiration on a visit to the Collection de l'art brut in Lausanne, Switzerland, which was established by French artist Jean Dubuffet as a collection of “l'art brut” or “raw art because of the untamed emotions resonating in it.”
Yet it has the distinct quality of being the first Brut to incorporate the tale Lludd and Llefelys.

The version known as the Brut Tysilio, attributed to the 7th-century Welsh saint Tysilio, became more widely known when its text was published in The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales, a once-influential collection of Welsh literary material whose credibility has suffered due the involvement of the antiquarian forger Iolo Morganwg, in 1801-1807.
Early translations and adaptations of Geoffrey's Historia, such as Wace's Norman French Roman de Brut, Layamon's Middle English Brut, were named after Brutus, and the word "Brut" came to mean a chronicle of British history.
In 1839 he edited the ancient metrical romances of Syr Gawayne for the Bannatyne Club, and in 1847 Layamon's Brut, with a prose translation, for the Society of Antiquaries.
His work can be found in many private and public Outsider Art collections, including the Bruno Decharme ABCD Collection in Paris, The American Folk Art Museum, The Art Collection of the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute, and The Collection de l’Art Brut.
Initially the Avant-garde, Art Brut and American abstract Expressionism (e.g. Pollock had a big impact on him) influenced Barceló's work, on the other hand he was always particularly interested in the Baroque paintings of Diego Velázquez, Tintoretto and Rembrandt.
It is unclear, in the light of modern scholarship, whether Anthony Wood's identification of Brut with Walter Brit is sound.
Walter's name is attached to the Brut Tysilio, a variant of the Welsh chronicle Brut y Brenhinedd.
