During the attack on Bullecourt in the Battle of Arras, Bruce took an ammunition dray in front of enemy lines to an isolated pocket of Australian soldiers, a deed for which he was awarded the Military Medal (gazetted 15 September 1919).
The mosaic and stained glass were the work of the one-armed Australian muralist Napier Waller, who had lost his right arm at Bullecourt during World War I and learned to write and create his works with his left arm.
In 2008, the Australian Department of Veterans Affairs wants to upgrade seven sites showing the Australian forces during the First World War (Ypres and Passchendaele in Belgium; Fromelles, Bullecourt, Mont-Saint-Quentin, Pozières and Villers-Bretonneux).
Forrest began his string of aerial victories on 22 March 1918, when he drove down a German two-seater reconnaissance plane out of control, followed by the destruction of two Albatros D.V fighters over Bullecourt.
