Logos' companion was discovered on 17 November 2001 from Hubble Space Telescope observations by K. S. Noll, D. C. Stephens, W. M. Grundy, J. Spencer, R. L. Millis, M. W. Buie, D. Cruikshank, S. C. Tegler, and W. Romanishin and announced on 11 February 2002.
Stephens was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-second Congress (March 4, 1851-March 3, 1853).
Stephens was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth and to the three succeeding Congresses and served from March 4, 1919, until his death.

He served as captain in the Ohio National Guard 1901-1903 and colonel in 1910 and 1911.
While president, he helped to bring honey consumption to the forefront of the California economy, encouraging the governor of California, William Stephens, to recognize "Honey Week" (February 6–11, 1922) as a promotion for apiarists in the state.
In 1952, he retired from the Assembly, and the seat was taken over by his son Willis H. Stephens.
It is now the site of the state's women's prison, the Topeka Correctional Facility.

Stephens began his academic career teaching at Brooklyn College (1952–53), after which he joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota (UM) in September 1953.

A native of Virginia, he was the founder of East Portland and Stephens Street in Portland, Oregon is named in his honor.

Stephens refused Overton's offer to sell him his Portland land claim for 300 new salmon barrels because he planned to bid for another claim, which he secured in 1845 and on which East Portland was founded.

He started a cooper shop in Oregon City and got his barrel-making stock from William Overton, one of the founders of Portland.

A cooper by trade, he operated one of the first ferries across the Willamette River at what was East Portland, Oregon.
He moved to Amarillo, Texas to practice law and after an energetic campaign was elected as a member of the Democratic Party to the 65th United States Congress, handily defeating a 20 year incumbent, John H. Stephens.
