In 1991, Yang began her career teaching Optics and Photonics at the École nationale supérieure d'arts et métiers in Paris, a historic school built by Napoleon that was mainly used for adult education programs.

The idea was suggested by such renowned scientists as Tsung-Dao Lee, C. N. Yang, and Samuel C. C. Ting, and supported by the then Vice-premier of the State Council Mr. Fang Yi.

For the next two years he worked in theoretical physics under Ta-You Wu, a distinguished physicist who in China taught T.D. Lee and C.N. Yang, who won the Nobel Prize in 1957.
