9 unusual facts about CDMA2000

3GP and 3G2

3G2 (3GPP2 file format) is a multimedia container format defined by the 3GPP2 for 3G CDMA2000 multimedia services.

3GPP2 file format was designed for CDMA-based Phones and may have the filename extension .3g2

Circuit Switched Data

With the evolution of CDMA to CDMA2000 and 1xRTT the use of IS-95 CDMA Circuit Switched Data declined in favour of the faster data transmission speeds available with the newer technologies.

GSM frequency bands

As a more recent example the Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S support quad-band GSM at 850/900/1,800/1,900 MHz, quad-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 850/900/1,900/2,100 MHz, and dual-band CDMA EV-DO Rev. A at 800/1,900 MHz, for a total of 'six' different frequencies (though at most four in a single mode).

Overall, where the 450 MHz NMT band exists, it either still runs NMT, or its been replaced by CDMA.

Internet in Ukraine

Both companies also offer a 3G mobile access: the Kyivstar is reselling the Ukrtelecom's UMTS services and the MTS is maintaining its own CDMA2000 network in major urban areas.

JetStream

JetStream and Mobile JetStream are two former brand names used by Telecom New Zealand to market its retail and resale ADSL-based fixed line and CDMA2000-based 3G wireless Internet access offerings respectively.

MC-CDMA

A variant of the mobile communication standard CDMA2000, where three or more pairs of 1.25MHz radio channels are used together so that higher data rates can be achieved.

User Data Header

The UDH is used in other protocols for short message transport - Short Message Peer-to-Peer (SMPP), Universal Computer Protocol (UCP) and in WEMT teleservice in CDMA2000.

Code division multiple access

CDMA is used as the access method in many mobile phone standards such as cdmaOne, CDMA2000 (the 3G evolution of cdmaOne), and WCDMA (the 3G standard used by GSM carriers), which are often referred to as simply CDMA.

IS-41

ANSI-41 is the standard now approved for use as the network-side companion to the wireless-side AMPS (analog), IS-136 (Digital AMPS), cdmaOne, and CDMA2000 networks.

Qualcomm

Qualcomm pioneered the commercialization of the cdmaOne (IS-95) standard for wireless cellular communications, following up with CDMA2000, an early standard for third-generation (3G) mobile.

Short Message Peer-to-Peer

Because of its support for non-GSM SMS protocols, like UMTS, IS-95 (CDMA), CDMA2000, ANSI-136 (TDMA) and iDEN, the SMPP is the most commonly used protocol for short message exchange outside SS7 networks.

Telecommunications in Israel

There are currently five companies in Israel which offer cellular communication service (with network technology used listed in brackets): Pelephone CDMA and UMTS , Cellcom GSM and UMTS , Partner Communications (Orange) GSM and UMTS , HOT Mobile (Mirs) UMTS and iDEN , and Golan Telecom UMTS .
