In 2006 Mirs became the sole provider of wireless service to the IDF following the end of the IDF contract with Pelephone.
•
It provides nationwide wireless service using UMTS, with supplemented coverage through a domestic roaming agreement with Pelephone (until they reach full coverage) and Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) technology (in the 800Mhz SMR band) with PTT service that appeals mainly to businesses and large organizations.
A year later Cellcom entered Israel's cellular network arena and became a client of Eurocom's Nokia phones, and together the two rivaled Pelephone's Motorola-based dominance of Israel's mobile phone market.
Amongst the celebrities to race in the show were Haim Yavin and Ilana Dayan, as well as the music band Portrait, which caused a traffic accident broadcast live via a cellphone of the Pelephone company.
There are currently five companies in Israel which offer cellular communication service (with network technology used listed in brackets): Pelephone CDMA and UMTS , Cellcom GSM and UMTS , Partner Communications (Orange) GSM and UMTS , HOT Mobile (Mirs) UMTS and iDEN , and Golan Telecom UMTS .
